About & Methodology
SaaSToolIndex is an English-language index of 161 software-as-a-service and AI tools. Unlike directories that republish vendor marketing copy, every tool page here states which official sources it was checked against and when.
How we verify each tool
We use two evidence levels. Hands-on means we personally registered at the vendor’s signup gate and walked through what a first-time user experiences; today that applies to 1 tool (Tally, with 26 numbered evidence files). Verified against official sources means we checked each claim against the vendor’s own website and pricing pages — the other 160 tools carry this level, and their pages link directly to those sources with a verification date. We are upgrading tools to hands-on testing over time, and we tell you exactly which level a given page is at.
Six-dimension scoring
Each tool is scored on six practical dimensions:
- Functionality — how well the product does its primary job.
- Usability — how quickly a new user can get real work done.
- Stability — consistency of performance across visits and regions.
- Collaboration — whether the free tier supports working with a team.
- Localization — whether the interface works in Chinese, Japanese, and other non-English markets.
- Value — what you get for the price, especially on the free tier.
Evidence levels: H and V
Every claim carries a badge describing how it was verified:
- H (Hands-on) — observed directly during our hands-on account or page testing.
- V (Verified docs) — confirmed against official vendor documentation and pricing pages; reliability observations made during our verification probes (uptime, page behaviour) also carry this level.
We mark the honest boundary too. Registering at the signup gate does not mean we could confirm everything inside an account; features that still need confirmation after the gate are flagged as pending manual review. We say so plainly when we could not fully verify something.
Who runs SaaSToolIndex
SaaSToolIndex is an independent solo publication — no corporate parent and no affiliated tool vendors.
No paid scores, no paid placements
We do not sell scores, and we do not sell rankings or placement. No tool we review can buy a better position, a higher score, or its presence on this site. Findings reflect what our tests show, nothing more — which is why the evidence files go with every conclusion.
If you think a review is inaccurate or outdated, email contact@saastoolindex.com and we will re-check and correct it. When we correct a page in a way that changes what a reader would decide, the change carries a dated note on that page.
What the dates mean: the verification date on a tool page is when we last read that tool's official pricing and source pages — not when the article was written. Scores marked as verified against official sources are our editorial reading of vendor documentation, not hands-on testing; the methodology above says which evidence level each page carries.
